Turns out you can build a recycling empire… but my goat kids and human kids are calling...
Rare Little Cash Cow For Sale
After running the Fort St James Bottle Depot for the past (nearly) 7 years, I’ve decided it’s time to pass this rare little cash cow on to someone new.
Truthfully, I’m selling for a pretty simple reason: I want to spend more time at home with my kids. When my older boys were little, I was busy building my recycling empire and missed out on a lot. Now I’m ready to slow things down a bit, raise some goats and chickens, and focus more on family life.
The depot itself is a well-established business with steady container volume and strong community support (thank you everyone!). Bottle depots are one of those businesses where income is tied directly to the number of containers processed, which makes it a surprisingly stable operation — and the licenses don’t come open very often. Handling fees are also currently being renegotiated with Encorp, which may present additional upside going forward.
This depot processes over 2.5 million containers annually.
• established volume
• existing infrastructure
• Express drop-and-go system already in place
• community reliance
• turnkey operation
This opportunity could be great for:
• Someone willing to endure literally every gross thing imaginable hiding in people’s bags of cans
• Someone with a strong backbone — both figuratively and literally (there’s some damn heavy lifting and running your ass off most days)
• Someone willing to run it themselves — or a couple or family. That’s where you can make some damn good money

Opportunities like this don’t come up very often in small communities.
Serious inquiries are welcome to email Kat at

I’m happy to provide training and help for a few months — I won’t just leave you in the deep end.
Fair warning: you’ll never look at a bag of cans the same way again.
