Express & GO is the new convenient way of recycling that’s spreading across the province. Using converted shipping containers, Express & GO is the contactless, self-serve drop off location for used beverage containers. Recycling refundable beverage containers has never been more convenient for consumers.

Express & GO is the new innovative solution that was developed to bring easy access to recycling in areas where siting a traditional location within a brick and mortar is a challenge or not fiscally viable due to smaller volumes of used beverage containers.

How does it work?

  1. Customers with an existing Express account or sign-up for a new account to use Express & GO
  2. Bring unsorted containers in transparent plastic bags to an Express & GO station
  3. Print a label by entering the phone number associated with your Express account and place a label on each bag
  4. To ensure secure access to the container doors, tap the ‘Open Access Door’ button in the Return-It app on your phone or text the unique 4 character code associated with your Express account to Return-It to receive a one-time PIN to open the door
  5. Place the bags in the Express & GO station
  6. Return-It will sort, count your containers and refund the deposit to your Return-It Express account
  7. Redeem your deposit refund at any time via e-Transfer or by cheque when a minimum balance of $50 is reached

Why dense urban areas?

With real estate being at an all-time premium, Express & GO offers an ideal alternative as it can be simply ‘dropped’ into usage while utilizing minimal space.

  • Municipal transfer stations: Express & GO adds a convenient drop-off location for beverage containers when residents are doing the rest of their recycling
  • Grocery or large venue parking lots: because of the small footprint of Express & GO, they can be placed within large parking lots at a grocery store or mall, where customers are already running errands

Why rural communities?

The easier the access to recycling, the more likely customers will make the choice to recycle their used beverage containers. Express & GO provides a much more cost-effective way of providing easy access to consumers in areas that might not be able to support the cost of a traditional brick and mortar location.

Technical requirements

  • Back-up power supply in case of disruption of solar power
  • Location easily accessible to public with at least one or two parking spots available for customer use during drop-off
  • Internet connection so customers can securely access doors and for security alarm and cameras (Internet can be supplied by Return-It)
