Week 3: June 8 - June 9, 2007

Walnut Grove Bottle Depot, South Van Bottle Depot & Steveston Bottle Depot

June 8, 2007: Walnut Grove Bottle Depot

When the Celebration Tour came to Walnut Grove the Return-It Team found heavy construction on 96th Avenue. This was a blessing in disguise as traffic backed up often holding up dozens of vehicles at a time. Return-It Man and his Super Sidekick used this opportunity to go up to each vehicle and direct them to the Walnut Grove Bottle Depot. The crowd laughed and cheered the Return-It Team who managed to entertain the drivers and passengers while they waited their turn. Many drivers promised to visit the depot and enter to win the giveaways.

One customer explained that she went to local sports events like baseball and picked up all of the containers from the fans and players. She said that the staff at the Walnut Grove Depot were very polite and helpful everytime she came in. Return-It Man was happy to hear about her resourcefulness and gave her an official Return-It Frisbee. After seeing the Frisbee two children that we spoke to claimed that Return-It Man was as cool as Super Man and Spider Man put together. Hearing this Return-It Man gave them both a big high five and a couple of tattoos.

June 9, 2007: South Van Bottle Depot

Return-It Man and his Super Sidekick went to Marine Drive to flag down the traffic and gain some attention. Unfortunately it was raining, so a lot of people had their windows rolled up thus the megaphone was not as effective as on sunny days. Yet, despite this, Return-It Man and his Super Sidekick were able to put together a good physical movement combination directing traffic towards the depot. It was clear that most of the drivers that went by  saw what was being promoted and were now aware of the location of the depot.

Encorp's Promotions Team spoke with a lot of people on Marine Drive and in a nearby grocery store parking lot. It was an effective location, because a number of them did not know where the depot was and many of them lived in the neighborhood. Return-It Man and his Super Sidekick were sure to give everyone clear directions to the depot and handed them a flyer for future use. A lot of people were interested in hearing more about the "Return-It to Win-It" Contest taking place and realized there would be a greater incentive to visit this Depot.

One young girl, when she saw Return-It Man, ran directly towards him from her mother’s car. She recognized immediately who he was and what the Return-It logo meant. She took several minutes to explain to him all of the great efforts her school was taking to do bottle drives and make sure that beverage containers were being recycled. Return-It Man and his Super Sidekick were very happy to see such enthusiasm and gave her a prize as well as a balloon. She promised to keep up the good work and to get her mom to come to the depot and enter the chance to win the grand prize BBQ.

June 9, 2007: Steveston Bottle Depot

Inside the Steveston Bottle Depot Return-It Man met a young man who had just returned a large amount of containers. Return-It Man said in a deep voice "You’re way too good at recycling to go without the official Return-It Yo-Yo." He and the rest of the people in the depot broke out laughing and the man was happy to have his efforts rewarded. Return-It Man followed up by explaining that if he returned even more containers, his family would have an even better chance at winning the BBQ. The customer said that he would be sure to come back as often as he could. Two young men came by and helped dress some customers up with extravagant face paint. They were both enthusiastic about the draw and were very helpful in creating a festive atmosphere around the depot.
