Getting started is simple! Whether you're new to the Return-It App or just looking for guidance, this page has everything you need. Find step-by-step tutorials on navigating the welcome page, redeeming your funds, checking your recycling history, and more. Make the most of your app experience.

Welcome to Home Page

  1. Getting Started

    Click "Get Started Here" to find the details of your nearest Return-It location.

    From here, you can also view directions and instructions for using the depot, find more locations and see Express & GO door instructions.

    Setting Automatic Donations

    You can turn on Automatic Donations so that all your returns automatically go to the Group or Charity of your choosing.

    To set up:

    1. Click "Set Automatic Donation" in your Express account.
    2. Use the search box to find your chosen Group or Charity and select it.
    3. Once selected, all your future deposit refunds will be donated automatically.

    NOTE that by setting your donation preference, you will donate all your deposit refunds to your chosen Group or Charity from that moment on until you disable this setting in your Express account.

  3. Sliding Up "Account Balance"

    Slide up your Express account to see a breakdown of your total returns and donations.

    Use the date filter to find specific return details.

  4. Accessing Knowledge Center

    To open the Knowledge Centre, click the "?" icon and access answers about the system, accepted beverage containers, and more.

    Have any questions? Chat with our customer service team using the chat option.

    To close the Knowledge Centre, click the "X" in the upper-right corner.

  5. Accessing Your Last Express Drop-Off

    To view your last Express drop-off:

    1. Swipe the “Get Started Here” box left.
    2. Tap the history icon to see your drop-off history.

Accessing Home Menu

    The Home Menu helps you navigate your Express account easily:

    • History – View your past drop-offs. Visit History for more information.
    • Account – Manage your profile and settings. Visit Accessing Account Information for more information.
    • Get Started Here – Begin a return. Visit Getting Started for more information.
    • Redeem Funds – Withdraw or donate your deposit refunds. Visit Redeeming Funds for more information.
  2. Accessing Account Information

    Manage your account settings easily in the Account section. Update your name, address, password, security questions, and more.

History

    In the History section of the app, you can view details of your latest returns. Tap the drop-down arrow to see:

    • Processing Date – When your bag was processed
    • Item Count – Total number of returned beverage containers
    • Deposit Total – Refund amount processed

    This helps you keep track of your recycling and refunds with ease!

Redeeming Funds

  1. Redeem Without Donating

    Once you have reached a minimum of $10 on your Return-It Express balance, you are eligible for an Interac e-Transfer redemption.

    To redeem funds:

    1. On the left navigation panel click on "Redeem Funds" or click on the “$” icon if you are on the "Home" tab of your account.
    2. Select "Redeem funds without donating".
    3. Click "NEXT" on the bottom-right of the pop-up screen.
    4. Click on the Cash out method box and select the "Interac e-Transfer" option and click "NEXT".
    5. Click on the "Security question" box and select one of the questions. Type an answer in the "Answer" box that you will remember when being asked to deposit your funds into your bank account.

    NOTE that all Return-It Express customers must select a security question and create a security answer even if the Interac auto-deposit feature is enabled through their online banking.

    1. Make note of your security answer and click "NEXT".
    2. Click on the "REDEEM FUNDS" button to request your Interac e-Transfer.

    NOTE that redemptions are for the full account balance, no partial redemptions are available.

  2. Donating to a Charity

    You can now donate to a Group or Charity through your personal Express account.

    To make a one-time donation:

    1. Select "Redeem Funds" on the left navigation panel in your account.
    2. Select "Donate Funds" from the drop-down menu.
    3. Click on the drop-down arrow to select a Group or Charity you wish to donate to.

    After selecting the Group or Charity, click on "DONATE FUNDS" to donate the funds in your Express account balance.

    NOTE that all redemptions/donations are for the full account balance and donations cannot be reversed.

Express & GO Door

  1. To visit an Express & GO unstaffed station, you'll need a one-time PIN. To generate your one-time PIN, tap the ‘Open Access Door’ button in the Return-It app on your phone (you can also text your Express & GO Passcode to 778-400-5253 to receive it).

    A new PIN can also be generated in 3 minutes if the existing one expires.
