About the Elementary School Program

Find information on creating an elementary school recycling program, compete to win cash prizes and track your school's progress.

Q: Who can register in the Elementary School Program?

Only elementary schools in British Columbia are eligible to register and participate in Encorp's BC Elementary School Recycling Program.

Q: How does an Elementary School register for the Program?

This year's Program will run from September 7, 2010 to June 10, 2011. To be eligible to win, schools had to register with our online Registration Form by December 17, 2010.

Q: What do participants receive when they register for the Elementary School Program?

Your will receive the following items free of charge:

  • Three recycling bins & a bundle of bags
  • Access to an online information package which includes access to Encorp Pacific's DVD recycling video  "The Container Adventures: The Rescue"
  • Template for a notice to teachers, students & parents about deposits on drink containers which can be filled in with your specific school information
  • Inforamtional e-brochures; one with general beverage container recycling information and a second with tips on how to conduct a successful bottle drive
  • Information about an authorized Return-It Depot nearest you through the Return-It Locations page
Q: What about the delivery of the recycling bins?

Encorp will deliver the bins within 3 to 4 weeks (depending on the number of orders placed) of registering for the Program.

Q: How do Program participants arrange for container collection/pick-up?

It is up to the schools to contact and develop relationships with the depots in their area. A list of depot locations and services is available on our Web site at http://www.encorp.ca/depotservices.

Q: Can I buy bins, even if I'm not a BC Elementary school?

Depending on availability bins can be purchased by anyone. Just send an e-mail to Encorp with details regarding your address, phone number, contact name and the number of bins that you've requested for billing purposes.

Q: How much do the bins cost?

Additional or replacement bins are available to schools and to the general public at a cost of $17.50 per bin (effective July, 2005). This fee includes shipping and handling.

Q: Why can't my junior high school participate in the Program?

Encorp Pacific has a separate High School Program. Details are available in the High School Recycling Program section of the Web site.

Q: How do I enter data for the school Program?

Once you have reached our Web site at www.encorp.ca:

  • Click on "Youth Centre" (at top of page), then
  • Click on "B.C. Elementary School Recycling Program", then
  • Click on "Program Main Menu"
  • Enter your username and password, which were supplied to you upon registering in the contest, in the appropriate boxes
  • Once inside your school page, click on "Report and Update Containers Collected"
  • Now, enter the data from your receipts into the appropriate box on the Web page
Q: Have you lost or forgotten your school username and password?

When you are at the Web page that asks for your username and password (see above), below the "submit" button is a sentence that reads, "I've forgotten my username and/or password, please email them to me." Click on "email them to me."

Q: Can we return alcohol containers?

Yes, you can collect and return alcohol containers. While we discourage the consumption of alcohol beverages by students, we certainly encourage the recycling of these empty containers.

Q: I need more bags. Can I get a box from a depot?

You can ask your local depot for bags. Most will be happy to assist you with your recycling program.

Q: What can our school win?

Your school could win a cash prize of $750 for 1st Prize, $500 for 2nd Prize and $250 for 3rd Prize.

Q: What are the prize categories?

Prize categories will be separated by student enrollment categories of: 1 - 150 students, 151 - 300 students, 301 - 450 students, 451 - 750+ students

Q: What is the Student Achievement Awards Program?

There are Student Leadership Awards that are to be given to individual students at your school who encourage and motivate others to recycle. This year Encorp has added a Group Award that may be given to entire classes or groups that have worked as a team to make your school's recycling program a success.

Q: Who can obtain the Student Achievement Awards?

Schools participating in our Program can use Encorp's online form to order Student Leadership Awards and Group Awards.

Q: When is the deadline for ordering Student Achievement Awards?

The last valid order date for the 2010/2011 Program is May 23, 2011.

Q: How do I order Student Achievement Awards for my students?

Log into your school profile using your username and password. Click on "Student Achievement Awards", at the bottom of this screen is "Student Achievement Awards Order Form". Click on that link and follow the prompts. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery.

Q: What is the Annual Awards Program?

The Annual Awards Program will reward the top five schools in each of the four student enrollment categories with Encorp's Environmental Reward for Recycling.
